Corporate Gun Lobby Gaslighting

States United - #GrassrootsGVP Report - June 9, 2017

Corporate Gun Lobby Gaslighting: the NRA’s news outlet blatantly lied about Comey hearing to protect Trump.  According to Media Matters for America, the National Rifle Association’s news outlet NRATV spun former FBI Director James Comey’s testimony to the Senate intelligence committee to President Donald Trump’s advantage by flatly lying about what Comey said. After spending $30 million to elect Trump, the NRA has promised they will be “Donald Trump’s strongest, most unflinching ally.” That allegiance apparently extends to fabricating quotes from a public hearing for the benefit of the president.

“Orange-out”: States United affiliates lit America orange for National Gun Violence Awareness Day. In parks, city halls, and statehouses across the country, our grassroots affiliates raised awareness and inspired culture change by wearing orange for gun violence prevention last weekend. And our affiliates work all year to #HonorWithAction to end gun violence in America. Click here to see highlights from Wear Orange and make a donation to support these amazing 32 state groups in the genuine grassroots work they do year-round.

Clergy from across Chicago unite to highlight solutions to reducing gun violence.  Live Free Chicago, a grassroots organization comprised of black churches striving for economic and political liberation, hosted a powerful conference to highlight solutions to violence and mass incarceration in Chicago. Marginalized communities, like black americans, are disproportionately impacted by gun violence. Click here to view a Facebook Live video of the conference.

National League of Cities speaks out against Federally Mandated Concealed Carry. The National League of Cities, a membership organization of over 1,600 cities across the country, highlighted the difficulties for local governments that would arise from the NRA’s Federally Mandated Concealed Carry proposal. There is no national standard for concealed carry, and this proposal would not create one. Instead, it would institute a race for the bottom, and in one version of the bill, institute permitless and school carry nationwide.
